Rabbi Daniel Alder

Rabbi Daniel Alder has served as the spiritual leader of Brotherhood Synagogue since 1994. Prior to that he worked with the Synagogue’s founding rabbi, Irving J. Block, as a student rabbi and assistant rabbi. Rabbi Alder graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Rabbinical School in 1989. He received a B.S. from Stanford University in Biological Sciences and an M.A. in Judaic Studies from the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. Cantor Isaac Yager

Cantor Isaac Yager joined Brotherhood Synagogue in 2017 upon the completion of his studies at The Jewish Theological Seminary where he received cantorial investiture and Master degrees in Sacred Music and Jewish Education.  Cantor Yager also holds a BA in theater from Bard College and a Masters in Music in vocal performance from Boston University.

Born in New York City, Cantor Yager has sung professionally with the Boston Lyric Opera chorus and was a young artist in the Castleton Festival, the late Maestro Lorin Maazel's summer music festival. During his year of study in Israel, Cantor Yager had the privilege to sing in the Jerusalem Great Synagogue choir. Cantor Yager has worked as a hazzan in communities across the tri-state area, including Congregation Adath Israel in Middletown, Connecticut, where he served as the sole clergyperson during their rabbi’s sabbatical.  Cantor Yager also worked as an educator at Park Avenue Synagogue where he taught while at the seminary.  The warmth, compassion, and commitment to social awareness found at Brotherhood are just some of the attributes which make this community an ideal environment to serve as a spiritual leader. Alisha Goodman, Executive Director

Alisha came to Brotherhood Synagogue from Prizmah: Center for Jewish Day Schools, where she served as the senior director of operations and technology and oversaw the day-to-day operations for the organization. Previously, Alisha had leadership roles at Schechter Day School Network, The Jewish Lens, and Jewish Community Services of Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. She is a current committee member for NCJW NY's Advocacy and Leadership Committee, a past board member of JPro (which merged with Leading Edge in early 2025), and the founder of Advancing Jewish Professionals of NYC, a group for emerging Jewish communal professionals. She earned a Master’s in Social Work with a focus in social administration from Columbia University and a Master’s in Jewish Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Roberta Kahn, Director of Programming

Roberta has been Director of Programming for 17 years and alongside our lay leaders and volunteers, has created scores of new programs, enhanced existing programming, and brings a robust menu of speakers, classes, volunteer activities, holiday celebrations, affinity opportunities and more to our community each year. Prior to Brotherhood, she served at New York University as Director of Administration at the Tisch School of the Arts; Director of Academic Relations at NYUonline; and as Administrative Director of the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life.  She visits Israel regularly throughout the year to spend time with her family and friends there. She has a BA from Bryn Mawr, an MA from NYU, and did her post-graduate studies in psychoanalysis at NPAP in NYC.  She’s a good listener and a dog lover 😊! Leah Felner, Director of Development & Member Engagement

Leah Felner is joining the Brotherhood Synagogue team from The Ramaz School on the Upper East Side where she served as the Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations. She created programming that engaged the greater Ramaz community as well, through speaker series, professional development events, and more. Leah found her love of philanthropy while attending Rutgers University, where she participated in a work-study program with Rutgers Hillel’s development office. From there she has held positions with Hillel International and Pratt Institute working to create meaningful opportunities for engagement and fundraising. Leah is a pop-culture enthusiast, trivia buff, avid reader, and lover of comedy. She is excited to go on this next adventure with Brotherhood! Tess Neider, Hebrew School Principal

Tess Neider is the Hebrew School principal at the Brotherhood Synagogue. Tess is originally from Miami, Florida and attended The George Washington University where she received a degree in History. Tess then pursued her Masters in Jewish Education at Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion. As part of that program Tess lived in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv; taking courses and working in education programs for English speaking families abroad. Tess joined us after working at a synagogue in Short Hills, New Jersey where she created a new curriculum based on Character Strength Education and Positive Psychology. She also has a strong camp background and worked at overnight Jewish camp for five summers. She is excited to be a part of the Brotherhood Synagogue community. Leisa Glass, Nursery School Director

Leisa comes to us from Sharon, MA where she served as the Director of Early Childhood Education at Temple Israel. She has been in the early childhood field for more than 30 years, teaching for over 25 years, and then 6 years ago joining Hertz Nursery School at Temple Israel. Leisa is passionate about helping children discover their world through creative play, experiential learning, and cooperative work. She feels it is important to ignite a love of learning and help each child develop a positive sense of self. Myra Hushansky, Tikvah Program Director

Myra Hushansky has been the director and teacher of the Tikvah Program, A Hebrew school program for children with disabilities, since its inception in1994. She has taught special education in public schools and is also an adjunct lecturer at CUNY Hunter College. She has been published in NAEYC. Rashidat Jimoh, Controller

 

 

Rashidat Jimoh joined the service of Brotherhood Synagogue as the Controller in April 2021. Before joining Brotherhood, she was the Controller at the Neighborhood Housing Services of NYC (NHSNYC), responsible for managing the company's financial and loan risk portfolio.

Rashidat is proactive, analytical, detailed, thoughtful, forward-thinking and presents her analysis with a balanced look at how today's decisions will impact the organization in the future.

She obtained her BBA in accounting from Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, and her MS Taxation from the same institution. She is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in New York.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading motivational books. She loves to spend time with family and friends and cooking African delicacies. Her passion for community services is unquantifiable. You may contact Rashidat at rjimoh@brotherhoodsynagogue.org.

Manda Hegardt, Office Manager

Manda is a life-long resident of New York who worked for many years as a graphic designer before coming to Brotherhood Synagogue. Besides her administrative duties, she designs the monthly bulletin and other print material for the synagogue. Manda lives on the upper west side and holds a degree in English Literature from SUNY Buffalo. She enjoys cooking, listening to live music, museums, travel, and garage sales. Toby Borzekowski, Office Assistant/Events Coordinator

Toby Borzekowski grew up in Vermont before studying at Macalester College in Minnesota, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science and American Studies. He loves traveling and has been to 24 countries so far. Toby enjoys reading, skiing, and learning languages. In his free time, he plays guitar and saxophone, hikes, and bakes. Tobey Hartman, Administrative Assistant

Raised on Long Island and now a New York City resident for many years, Tobey is delighted to be supporting the Brotherhood Synagogue office in her role as a part-time administrative assistant. She is a freelance graphic designer and, in her free time, loves performing with her rock-pop choir, Unsettled Scores. With a background in fine art and acting, she also enjoys museums, theater, reading, dancing, and checking out the beautiful architecture of the city. Sara Cohen, Assistant to the Nursery School Director

Sara grew up in an Orthodox home in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents, one a Holocaust survivor, both immigrants, stressed the importance of Jewish education, strong family units, and hard work. Their devotion to Judaism and its traditions, unwavering and deep-rooted, has guided Sara throughout her life. Sara came to Brotherhood Synagogue with her husband, Stephen, to celebrate their aufruf in 2004. Not long after, with two young children, they became members of the community. Sara studied buying and merchandising at FIT, simultaneously working as a buyer. For the past 25 years, she held various positions both in retail and wholesale markets. Sara hopes to bring her management and customer service skills to her present role. She is excited to be further involved in the Brotherhood community. Francine Silberstein, Hebrew School Assistant

Francine comes to the Brotherhood having been the Administrative Director for the Noar afters chool program at 92Y for many years. Francine brings her passion for early childhood education and love for the Brotherhood Synagogue to her role to foster a nurturing and engaging environment for our Hebrew School students.
